Last updated: 31 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Opportunity Hub ("we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data when you use the Opportunity Hub website, applications and services (the "Platform"). We are committed to handling your personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and other applicable data protection laws. By using the Platform, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Who is responsible for your data

Opportunity Hub is the data controller for the personal data processed through the Platform. If you have questions about this policy or how we handle your data, you can reach us through our Contact page.

2. Information we collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

  • Account information: your name, email address, password, role (Employer or Freelancer), and profile photo.
  • Profile and professional information: skills, categories, work history, portfolio, company details, rates and other details you add to your profile or listings.
  • Identity verification (KYC) data: identification documents and related information you provide to verify your identity.
  • Financial and transaction data: bank account details for withdrawals, wallet and escrow balances, payments, and records of jobs, tasks, offers, contracts and subscriptions. Card and payment credentials are handled by our payment provider, not stored by us.
  • Content and communications: messages, proposals, bids, reviews, disputes and any files you upload or send through the Platform.
  • Usage and device data: IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and actions taken, collected through logs and cookies.
  • Third-party sign-in data: if you register or log in using Google or Facebook, we receive basic profile information from those providers as permitted by your settings with them.

3. How we use your information

We use your personal data to:

  • Create and manage your account and provide the Platform's features;
  • Connect Employers and Freelancers, and enable jobs, tasks, offers, contracts and messaging;
  • Process payments, hold funds in escrow, release payments, manage wallets and withdrawals, and calculate fees and taxes;
  • Verify your identity and prevent fraud, abuse and other prohibited activity;
  • Manage subscriptions and billing;
  • Handle disputes, appeals and support requests;
  • Send you service, transactional and security notifications, and, where permitted, updates and marketing you can opt out of;
  • Improve, secure and maintain the Platform, and comply with our legal obligations.

4. Legal bases for processing

Depending on the activity, we process your personal data on the basis of: performance of our contract with you (to provide the Platform); your consent (for example, certain marketing or optional features); compliance with a legal obligation (such as record-keeping, tax and anti-fraud requirements); and our legitimate interests in operating, securing and improving the Platform, provided these do not override your rights.

5. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as needed:

  • With other users: your public profile, listings, proposals, reviews and the information necessary to complete a contract are visible to the users you interact with.
  • With service providers: payment processors (such as African Money), identity verification, hosting, email delivery, analytics and similar providers who process data on our behalf under appropriate safeguards.
  • For legal and safety reasons: where required by law, court order or regulator, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Opportunity Hub, our users or the public.
  • In a business transfer: in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, secure the Platform and understand how it is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling some cookies may affect how the Platform works.

7. Data retention

We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the Platform. We may retain certain data for longer where required to comply with legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention or dispute-resolution obligations. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.

8. International transfers

Some of our service providers may process data outside Nigeria. Where personal data is transferred across borders, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected in line with applicable data protection law.

9. Data security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and you are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.

10. Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to request correction of inaccurate data, to request deletion, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, and to data portability. You can exercise most of these rights from your account settings, or by contacting us. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

11. Children

The Platform is not intended for anyone under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

12. Third-party links and services

The Platform may link to or integrate with third-party websites and services. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you and will update the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Platform after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

14. Contact us
